artist statement
My work is an exploration of the intersection between nature, identity, and the complexities of the human experience. Through both painting and photography, I create vivid, often intimate representations that delve into themes of mental health, sexuality, feminism, and the delicate beauty of life and death. Nature-based imagery is central to my practice, as it offers a language that is both raw and poetic, mirroring the human condition in all its fragility and strength.
In my paintings, I use color, texture, and religious iconography to evoke a sense of vulnerability, connection, and transformation. These abstracted or semi-realistic representations of natural elements are infused with layers of personal and collective experience, where emotions, struggles, and triumphs are woven into the landscape of the mind and body. The landscapes I create serve as a mirror to the internal landscapes we navigate—vibrant, chaotic, sometimes dark, but always full of life.
Through photography, I capture fleeting moments of beauty and decay, emphasizing the impermanence of existence. My focus on sexuality and feminism arises from a desire to reclaim and celebrate the complexities of being human—unapologetically acknowledging the intersections of desire, power, vulnerability, and strength. I aim to create work that both challenges and empowers, inviting viewers to reflect on their own identities, struggles, and the shared beauty of our collective humanity.
Ultimately, my work is a meditation on transformation—how we move through pain, love, loss, and growth. It is an invitation to embrace the complexity of being alive, to find beauty in moments of darkness, and to honor the cycles of life and death that define our existence.
